How accurate is this calculator?+

The calculator uses iXsystems recommended RAIDZ configurations (8-drive vdevs) and standard ZFS parity efficiency ratios. It is a reliable sizing guide — actual hardware specifications depend on workload I/O profile, network throughput requirements, and budget. A free infrastructure assessment refines the estimate.

What is the difference between RAIDZ1, RAIDZ2, and RAIDZ3?+

RAIDZ1 tolerates 1 drive failure (87.5% usable with 8-drive vdev). RAIDZ2 tolerates 2 simultaneous failures (75% usable) and is the recommended default for production. RAIDZ3 tolerates 3 failures (62.5% usable) for mission-critical data. Mirror vdevs offer the best read performance at 50% usable.

What is an iXsystems appliance?+

iXsystems is the company behind TrueNAS. Their certified hardware appliances (Mini, R, H, M, F-Series) are purpose-built, pre-configured, and supported with gold/platinum SLAs. Apisylux is an authorised iXsystems partner in the UAE — we procure, deploy, and support these systems.

Can TrueNAS replace our Windows file server?+

Do you supply the hardware or just the software?+
